you can have a clean mounted finish by using a spacer mount.

The Fusion PS-A43SPB Panel-Stereo 43mm Surface Mounting
Spacer allows for tidy installation of your Fusion
Panel-Stereo directly onto any flat surface with no mounting
cut-out required. It has a 43mm or 1.7in deep bracket that lets the
stereo be mounted to a flat surface. No need to cut an opening for
the speaker or wires. This mount is made of durable ABS plastic.
The total protrusion from the mounting system is 2 inches with the
radio installed. A one-inch cutout on the bottom of the bracket
lets you direct all the wiring downward, along the mounting
surface.
